Master jumper setting on DuraDrive ET2?

Postby ifreeze » Fri Feb 01, 2013 2:49 am

Can the DuraDrive ET2 be set by jumper to master?

I hope this could be done. On the data sheet is no info. That drive is really fast. I don't want to send it back.

I bought the 32GB DuraDrive ET2 FHM32GW25H for my Aluminum PowerBook G4 12 inch 1,33 GHz.

Not every time, but near 50% it freezes the touchpad and keyboard after wake up.
I had to close and open the lid several times then it works again. I tried 10.3.9, 10.4, 10.4.11 and 10.5 but all the same. Sometimes the disc utility has to repair disc permissions. I tried a hd again, and no problems.

I hope someone can help me. I'm trying to solve this about a month
Should I try a different ssd?

Has somebody running the DuraDrive ET2 in an PowerBook without problems?

Thanks

Your drive is already set as Master drive.

Thanks SSD-James

OK, good to know.
What else can cause such behavior?

I checked the firmware, its the newest version.

Is this Drive incompatible with my PowerBook?
Or could it be faulty? Should I try another ET2?
Change the hibernation mode?

So, if I understand: There is no jumper? Its set internal as Master?
On the data sheet picture it looks like a jumper.

The problem still exist. I ordered now a second one to try.
So far nobody had confirmed that these drive work with PowerBooks.

If not, I had to go with another vendor.

In the package are not only the 4 screws but a black jumper too!

Now I am very confused :?

4 screws are for 2.5" to 3.5" bracket attachment.
Your case is nothing to do with it.
The keyboard/screen freezing is actually nothing to do with the SSD.
Unlike Hard Disk Drive, SSD has its own feature called "TRIM" and "Garbage Collection"
Your Power book OS is so old that the above feature will not work with that old OS.
What about the normal bootup?
Do you see the freeze from the normal bootup?
Or only from the wake up?

Thank you very much for your reply.

I know that the Powerbooks are old but I want to revitalize them.
So I was looking for a reliable an fast SSD for them.

The DuraDrive ET2 seem to be the best solution available.
The Powerbooks are now so silent and faster too.

Meanwhile I got a third Powerbook, a 17" G4 1,5 GHz. All three devices are running 10.4.11

There work very fine until the auto sleep is activated. I tried all options. After the wake up there is no mouse pointer (trackpad) and keyboard input any more. If I close the lid an reopen several times the mouse (trackpad) appears again.

Also I have to repair disk permission frequently, but I dont know if this has to do with the SSD. Seems like a Software/OS issue.

There are many old PowerBooks around, but I can't find similar cases on goolge.
Only some issues with a slower taiwanesse SSD. They solved it by set a Master jumper. On my PB 17" I tried the jumper without any effect.

The DuraDrive 32GB ET2 does not need a jumper and is set by firmware to master?
"Your drive is already set as Master drive." The first came without a jumper the second with. Or did you mean that the jumper should be set by factory?

Please help me with further advice. I don't want to give up.
