DURA Drive ET2 pin 20 problem

Postby MrJones » Tue Jan 22, 2013 9:19 am

Hello,

I bought a DuraDrive ET2 (FHM28GW25H) SSD drive to replace an old P-ATA HDD. The problem is, that the connector in the Notebook (Acer TravelMate 291i) has no hole for pin number 20 (keypin). On your SSD you have all 44 Pins installed. As fare as I have seen on your datasheet, you don鈥檛 use pin 20.

What is your proposal to install the SSD at the P-ATA connector, to pinch off pin 20 on the SSD and losing any warranty or do you have another solution?

Thank you for your support in advance.

I think Roy, our engineer, already sent you an e-mail.
If you did not receive that e-mail, that is OK.
It is useless pin.
At factory, it should be cut when shipping.
So, please return it.

Thanks,
James

Thank you for your fast response and sorry for the double request. At work i had problems with the registration in our forum so i sent an e-mail. At home i tried it again and it worked.

To bee honest i didn't expect an answer to my mail. Your support is exemplary, full points!

I just talked to my dealer an described him the situation. He will manage the rest of the return. If it is ok for you i will add our conversation respectively the mail to make sure things are going the right way.

Thank you and have a nice day,
Jonas

Hi James,

i just got the new (exchange) SSD with the correct gap at pin 20.

After installing it into my Acer TravelMate 292LMi notebook the Bios didn't find the HDD (SSD).

I checked if there are any jumper settings necessary but in a previous thread you said that the SSD is set to Master by default.

Bevor i bought the DURA Drive i tested the System with a KingSpec KSD-PA25.1-128Mj and it worked fine with Win7.

Do you have any idea why the BIOS is not detecting the Dura Drive?

Thank you for your help.

There must be something wrong on your exchanged one.
It should have no problem to detect the SSD.

Mh, sounds not so good. I will check my Bios version first this evening. Maybe i mist the last update. The Intel 855PM chipset shouldn't be the problem or?

Hi James,

i made the Bios update to the newest version (1.3).

After some restarts an Bios changes, the SSD was detected but freezes the system. So I had only two options, wait untily the SSD was detected (3-4 sec.), or entering the bios and having no IDE drive detected.

After that i tried two jumper settings:

First with the two inner pins, where nothing happened (no detection of SSD).

Second with the two outer pins, where the start up of the PC went very fast, but still without detecting the SSD. But when i entered the Win7 installation, the SSD was detected but i could not install windows on it (message: you can't install windows on that drive, because it is not detected by your system(something like that).

Without any jumper setting or the first setting, the SSD was not shown in the Win7 Setup.

The detection and freezing the system occur randomly.

I cann't do any major changes in the Bios, only turn Quiet boot and Network boot On and Off and change the Boot Device.

Do you have any idea what to do next? I have no more ideas.

Thank you.

Does your PC detect the drive at BIOS without jumper? (not OS installation step)
If it detects it, it will be OK.
If not, try the bottom jumper.
By the way, do you have the manual of your PC?
You are trying to install Win7-32bit? or XP-32bit?
